Food, Motivation, and a Confession

Anyone else ever feel like this? : /

It’s been a few days since I’ve written and I’m sorry. I guess this is as good of a time as any to share my confession.

It has been hard for me to reign in my eating lately. At this very moment, I want dark chocolate so badly that it’s taking everything I have to stay seated on my futon. It sucks. I may be a lot of things, but disciplined and in control I am not when it comes to food. I would rather eat than go out drinking. I love food. Even for someone in my profession, it’s not easy to resist certain temptations. What do/can I do about it? *SIGH* This is the tricky part. Eating healthier on a regular basis is the best way to crave healthier food, but that’s not easy when all you want is to eat chocolate and ice cream and Special K Sour Cream & Onion Cracker Chips. So, you drink tea and lots of water and ask someone to be your buddy so when you have crazy cravings you can talk to them. Doug is my buddy. And you fake it til you make it. You force yourself to eat healthier until that’s what you crave. Just like exercise—you do it every day even if you don’t want to and then it just becomes a habit. Therefore, I sit here, drinking tea and water, thinking about food, and not eating it. Because it’s 10pm and I don’t need anything. I’m not hungry and eating when not hungry is a surefire way to pack on the pounds and lose self-confidence.

Lite Cool Whip. It’s good on fruit, chocolate, anything dessert-y and gives it a nice extra creamy-something that makes it taste much more decadent than it is.

Special K Cracker Chips.  If you have a craving for crunchy, potato-chip-ness, these are a great substitute. Doug introduced me to them and dang! Yum yum yum.

Greek Yogurt Bars.  My girlfriend Michelle introduced me to these and they are so delicious! Each is made with granola, Greek yogurt, and real fruit and nuts. So far, I’ve tried the Orchard Peach, Blueberry Acai, Cranberry Almond, and Toasted Coconut. Wow. Each is delicious, pretty darn nutritious, and decently filling for its size. I would say the Toasted Coconut is best for a dessert, the Orchard Peach for breakfast, and Cranberry Almond for a snack. The Blueberry Acai was just okay. I have the Cherry Almond and Apple & Honey to try next!
