Ab Jam

This is it! The last of the 5 workouts from Chalene Johnson’s DVD collection.

Ab Jam

Not your typical core moves!

Where I Got This DVD: The library
Length: Approx. 20 min. (although the DVD case said 40!)
Instructor
: Chalene Johnson
Team: The usuals with Mindy and Anarita as modifiers

Note: Need body bands (the ones with handles) and mat (if no carpet)

  • The first 10 min. are standing—you use the body band to create resistance to work against and you focus on keeping your abs tucked in at all times to really turn on your abs—lots of twisting of the abs during this part—overall = good
  • The next 10 min. are on the mat—there are some great moves during this segment that I haven’t done before like variations of side crunches—definitely felt my abs working!
  • End = stretching

Overall:
Instructor: Chalene is good at explaining how to tuck in and turn on your abs to get the most out the workout. I appreciated her instruction and reminders and didn’t find her to be obnoxious. The one thing that bothered me was that Chalene kept saying how these moves were going to get you a 6-pack and I’m sorry, but that’s just not possible without cardio sessions and conscience eating habits.
Moves
: Good stuff—different than what I’ve done before, both standing abs and floor work.
Intensity Level
: Beginner to Advanced
Buy It
?: Want some new moves for your core? Don’t have a lot of time? Try this. Don’t outright buy it because I can see this getting boring if you were to use it one or more times a week, but definitely try it. This won’t get you the 6-pack that Chalene promises, but no core DVD will. However, this is a great DVD renter to give you some more ideas of moves to incorporate with your regular workouts to help you get flatter, stronger abs.
