Motivation Monday

Music is my best and favorite motivator during a workout.

Happy Labor Day! Happy September is Yoga Month! Is your day labor-free? Did you still plan a workout for today, or is it your day off? How did the weekend go? Did you find time to move and flex your willpower muscles as you turned down a third serving of cake?

I promise I’ll get to my August crème-de-la-crème wrap-up tomorrow, but it is Monday and it’s time for some motivation, just in time for the new school year and as the Fall weather starts to roll in (at least here in Michigan!).

Move of the Week:
Decline Pushups—Put your feet up on a chair (or a low bench or whatever you have that’s sturdy and 6-12 in. off the ground) so your feet are at the same height or slightly higher than your shoulders. Walk your hands out to pushup position and complete a set of 8-20 pushups from this position. Repeat for a total of three sets. This works your entire body, especially your core with the added incline beneath your feet. Try to do these a few times a week (if not every day!) and aim to increase the number of reps you can complete by at least one per set each week.

Quote of the Week:
“Life is often compared to a marathon, but I think it is more like being a sprinter; long stretches of hard work punctuated by brief moments in which we are given the opportunity to perform at our best.” –Michael Johnson, American sprinter and winner of four Olympic gold medals and eight world championship gold medals

Question to Ask Yourself Each Day:
“Are you living your best life?”
*This can help you in EVERY aspect of your life from personal and professional relationships to your relationship with yourself to your eating and exercise habits to your daily workload.

Songs of the Week:
Sail by AWOLNATION (I’m obsessed with this song right now)
Pink Batman by Dan Deacon (my new running song!)
Don’t Blame the World, It’s the DJ’s Fault by Cobra Starship (it was an iTunes free download!)

Trick of the Week:
Go to your local library and/or video store and check out their workout DVD sections—both of mine have free rentals, each for a week per video! Now you can’t use the “it’s too expensive” excuse.

Do you have a trick of the week? What about a new song you discovered? What questions do you ask yourself every day? Any motivational quotes on your walls?
