Motivation Monday!

Was your weekend full of fitness? Mine was! I tried my new Step/DVD and my new Pilates Magic Circle/DVD. Good stuff – I’m sore today. What about how you ate? Did you splurge a bit? Fall off the wagon, so to speak? No worries, it’s a new day and a new week.

I’m going to incorporate some facts and info from my AFAA Group Exercise Certification study materials here and there. For starters, the ugly truth:

“By far, the number one concern is that over two-thirds of Americans are considered overweight, and almost 70% of the population is not engaging in regular, moderate, or even light physical activity, according to the American Heart Association.”

Really!? Holy wow. Are you part of that two-thirds statistic? What about the 70%? What are you going to do about? Start by moving…

“Now, a new report in Obesity Research shows that exercise is the key factor in weight loss regimens because it can lead to an increased expenditure of energy. That in itself is nothing new. However, what is new is the fact that physical activity can also inhibit food intake in overweight people. Plus, it seems to be the critical factor in maintaining a desirable weight… Physical activity, more so than weight loss, also reduces the risk of coronary heart disease.”

See? You CAN lose weight, you CAN get healthier, and you CAN decrease your risk of disease by simply moving. And I promise, once you start, you won’t want to stop 🙂

You can also let The Power of Music move you! I saw TRON last week so two of the songs are from the soundtrack (Daft Punk! Woo!) and they’re great for weight-lifting.

Or, turn to a top trainer to motivate you – A Tip from Jillian Michaels via Facebook:
“There’s no such thing as failure. There’s only feedback. Stop judging yourself & start recognizing it for what it is, an entry point for learning. The truth is, if you’re not failing then you’re not really reaching & really trying. If you don’t like the outcome of a situation, learn from it, make corrections & reapproach wiser & stronger until you achieve your goals. Success is in big part a matter of attrition.”

Or, turn something from history into something of the present… with a little twist. As a Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day special read this “The FBGs Have a Dream…” post from the ladies over at Fit Bottomed Girls.     • This weekend wasn’t too bad for me… but weekends in general are so tempting! Did you rock some yoga today? I’ll be reviewing a great DVD in the near future, FYI! Stay tuned 🙂
